Canstruction

Canstruction is a charity which hosts competitions, exhibitions and events showcasing colossal structures made entirely out of full cans of food. Participating organizations are asked to design, build and display the can sculptures to raise money and awareness of hunger in local communities. At the end of the event, all the canned food is donated to local hunger relief organizations. Since 1992, Canstruction has helped to raise over 25 million pounds of food.

This sculpture of a sailboat, a tribute to Greenwich maritime history, was creatively crafted from 4500 cans of food for the first ever Greenwich Canstruction Competition which benefited the Greenwich Neighbor to Neighbor Food Pantry. The staff’s creativity and diligent team work was recognized with both the “Juror’s Favorite” and “People’s Choice” awards. After the two week exhibit at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwich, the cans were used to stock the shelves of Neighbor to Neighbor’s Food Pantry.
