- St. John Bosco Children’s Centre -
Description
Charles Hilton Architects is happy to partner with the St. John Bosco Children’s Centre in Kitale, Kenya in their work rescuing children from life on the streets in rural Kenya. The St. John Bosco Centre’s mission is to recognize the dignity and worth of each child by rescuing and preventing orphans and vulnerable children from life on the streets by placing them in schools and keeping them in close contact with their families. They are currently assisting 160 children and youth. Most of their families have left the arid Turkana region in Northern Kenya to escape the extreme poverty and hunger. The children are often saved from the streets and placed in boarding schools where they are clothed, fed and educated. The school is on 10 acres and includes dormitories, classrooms, a library, kitchen, dining room and a playing field for sports and exercise. After completing the schooling, the children either go on to more formal education, college or are reintegrated with their families where they can make a difference.
